Today, it’s our pleasure to share a “Sumidera-Shingyo (Sutra)” with you. This sutra was transcribed in the Nara Period at Kairyuōji Temple as part of the daily devotions of a novice monk. The beauty and sharpness of the writing, which contributes to the overall attractiveness of the piece, is the result of the scrupulous care paid by the novice to each character. The faint color on the shaft ends of the scroll is from the Nara period. The descriptive text on the outer, protective box is the work of Nobuo Inokuma, a scholar of ancient texts. Enjoy!
